The Devil’s in the Details – Information You Need To Get After A Car Accident

It’s a big world, and people don’t always get along. Car accidents cause damage to people’s personal property, numerous personal injuries, often result in conflicting versions of who was at-fault, and cause significant shock and to people. Accordingly, it’s no surprise that the scene of a car accident can be a very tense situation.

If, after a car accident, you find yourself in a situation with an uncooperative driver, there are two pieces of information that you should absolutely do your best to obtain:

  1. The registration of the other vehicle – this will allow yourself, emergency services such as the police, or your lawyer to take steps towards identifying the driver and owner of the vehicle. Making a note or taking a photo of the other vehicle or vehicles involved in the car accident is the most important thing that you can do beyond ensuring that everyone is safe and out of harm’s way.
  2. The name of the other driver – if possible, take a photo of the other driver’s licence. However, in some situations, a driver may not give out their name because they are scared or angry, in these cases, be polite, but do not attempt to force them to give you your name or the situation could deteriorate.
